The Department of Public Works of San Joaquin County, with a staff of 426 employees, is charged with the responsibility to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain the public roads, bridges, water, wastewater systems, flood control, and solid waste systems of the County, to protect the health and welfare of the public and preserve the County's infrastructure investments.
San Joaquin County Public Works Department is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Engineer with excellent communication and leadership skills to join its management team. The Engineer V will function as a Division Manager who is responsible for planning, coordinating, directing and supervising the work of a Public Works engineering division. The incumbent will also support department management in areas of personnel, budgeting, planning, and policy/procedure development. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and experience in the workings of local government; have a background in traffic/transportation engineering and the ability to apply these principals. Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) are a must as the position requires interaction/communication with the public and various local and state agencies. The candidate must be able to work in a dynamic setting to effectively support the Department’s needs. Requirements
The position requirements include: two years of experience as either a Registered Civil Engineer or Traffic Engineer in an organization performing diversified public works activities, a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related field from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, a valid certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer or Traffic Engineer as issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and a valid CA Driver’s License.
